Darla Hoover, Artistic Director of BAE & Associate Director of CPYB, shares a favorite barre combination that helps her students develop a stronger and deeper demi plié.

Darla Hoover trained at the renowned Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and The School of American Ballet. In 1980, George Balanchine invited Ms. Hoover to join The New York City Ballet where she appeared as a featured soloist in much of the company’s repertoire. Ms. Hoover is currently the Artistic Director of Ballet Academy East’s Pre-Professional Division in New York City, and Associate Artistic Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, where she also directs a nationally recognized Teachers Workshop that instructs fellow dance educators on the syllabus and methodologies developed by Marcia Dale Weary. Ms. Hoover guest teaches all over the world, and has been invited to share her successful techniques at distinguished companies such as Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, New National Theatre Tokyo and Royal Danish Ballet. She is also a répétiteur for the George Balanchine Trust. Ms. Hoover recently staged Balanchine ballets for The Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, New National Theatre Tokyo, Dance Theatre of Harlem and The Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. This performance marked the first time the Vaganova Ballet Academy had ever performed a work by Mr. Balanchine.
