Born in Gloucester, England, Timothy Couchman was trained at the Royal Ballet School in London and the Vaganova Academy in St Petersburg. As a dancer, he worked with Boris Eifman Company, Zurich Ballet, Ballett Frankfurt and Needcompany and subsequently as a ballet master for the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Dresden Semperoper Ballett. Since 2006 Mr. Couchman has been principal choreographic assistant to David Dawson, travelling to many different companies around the globe, teaching and staging productions for David Dawson. In 2016, Mr. Couchman joined the faculty of Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden.
