Amanda Bennett was born in Texas, and received her training at the School of American Ballet in New York. In 1976 she joined the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève under the direction of Patricia Neary and the artistic direction of George Balanchine. From 1978 to 1989 she was Principal dancer with the Basel Ballet under the direction of Heinz Spoerli and during the 1990 season performed with Pennsylvania Ballet. Amanda Bennett has worked as guest teacher for many companies including The Feld Ballet N.Y. and Ballett Basel. From 1998 to 2000, she was ballet mistress for Ballet Freiburg Pretty Ugly. Ms. Bennett has served as a member of the jury for the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge, Sydney Australia and for the Prix de Lausanne.
From 2012-2016, Ms. Bennett served as the Artistic Director for the Prix de Lausanne
Since 2000, she has been the Director of the Ballettschule Theater Basel.
